Tree Watering

There are tree watering bladders that wrap around trees and slowly water them over hours or days. They cost around $20 and are floppy plastic or PVC that could get pierced or break. But there is a much more straightforward way to do this yourself[1] that costs a few bucks, or likely nothing.

  1. Get a 5-gallon bucket (lid optional), a drill, and a 1/8" drill bit.
  2. Drill one 1/8" hole in the bottom of the bucket.
  3. Fill the bucket with water, place the lid loosely on top if you have it, and put at the edge of the canopy of the tree to let it drain.

This should drain over about an 30-minutes to an hour, or much longer with the lid sealed instead of loosely put on. Using the lid will protect it from getting dirt and other debris stuck in the hole.
