Managing Neck Pain

Handling a crick in the neck

What I mean by a "crick" is when you have neck pain when you try and move your head in any of the three axes:

"Tricking the brain"[2]

Cock your head towards the direction that you are feeling discomfort. When you reach that point, put your opposite hand on top of your head and pull it towards the other direction and resist it with your head and neck. Do that for five seconds, relax, and then repeat the process.

I found this worked surprisingly well. Haven't tried it yet, but would probably work with the other axes, as well.

Massaging[1]

What this video recommends is to turn your head along one of those axes until right before you have any pain or discomfort. Once there, on the side of your body that has discomfort, use your thumb (put your hand up like you are waving hi to somebody on that side; use that thumb) and massage along your neck and down towards your shoulder for about five seconds. Then slowly turn your head further until right before you have pain once again. Repeat this process. Then repeat on the other axes.

I found this actually worked, which I am always surprised about, especially from chiropractors.
