Douglas Fir Liqueur
This uses doug fir sprigs to make a very yummy liqueur. I use young tips from mid-spring because they are VERY flavorful and tender, but it seems like you could use anything.
Ingredients
- 25 1-inch sprigs of Douglas fir (including stems)
- 750 ml. vodka
- 1/2 cup cane sugar
- 1/4 cup water
Cookware
- Blender
- 2 one-quart jars with lids, or one jar and the original vodka bottle with a lid
- Saucepan
- Wooden spoon
- Coffee filter
- Funnel
Instructions
- Rinse fir tips and pat them dry.
- Put tips and vodka in the blender and pulse until they are finely ground.
- Pour into one of your jars, cover, and let rest for 12+ hours.
- Make simple syrup from the water and sugar, dissolving all the sugar. Remove from heat and put into the other jar until cooled to room temperature.
- After 12+ hours, strain the fir mixture into a clean jar or the cleaned vodka bottle using the coffee filter and the funnel.
- Once cooled, add the simple syrup to your alcohol, and shake or stir until combined.
I read that this lasts up to 2 months in the fridge, but I kept mine in a cupboard for almost 9 months and it was fine.
